USITT's Rigging Safety Initiative offers free stage rigging inspections and safety training for secondary schools across America. Schools can apply for the service twice a year, in spring and fall. The deadline for spring is April 25, 2019. ⠀ ⠀ The RSI is open to all secondary schools nationwide. Once a school's application is approved, they choose from a list of participating ETCP certified rigging inspectors in their area. USITT pays the inspector directly for the inspection and four to six hours of safety training for faculty and student stage crew. The only cost to schools may be the inspector's travel and housing -- if necessary -- and any special equipment such as a lift to access the system. ⠀ ⠀ USITT has a national network of inspectors, so many schools find their cost is ZERO. The school gets a detailed status report on their rigging -- what's working properly and what potential safety problems can be prevented with routine care. Free safety training for up to eight staff & students helps ensure safe operation of a complex system. Thanks to our sponsors & donors, we can promote safe stages for students at little or no cost to schools! ⠀ ⠀ To learn more please visit: https://loom.ly/_xUoQ-s
Event Safety Pro-Tip: Take care of yourself and those around you (duh!). A resilient mindset can get you a long way, both when you're on and off a gig. That's not to say that bad days and difficult circumstances don't exist; but ultimately you're in control over how much you let them affect you AND how much you let your attitude, either positive or negative, affect others. . . . . #resilience #eventprofs #itsallaboutattitude
We've wrapped day one of our Crowd Safety Symposium presented by Eric and Dawn Stuart of Gentian Events (UK) here in Las Vegas at PRG. It's been a day full of honest, open conversation, discussing the physics of crowds and ways to set up a site, managing ingress and egress for live events varying from small holiday market setups to large music festivals and New Years Eve celebrations. Looking forward to a discussion on crowd psychology tomorrow! . . . #crowdsafety #crowdmanagement #crowdmanagementtraining #eventsafety #eventprofs #eventpros #crowdsafetymanagement #lasvegas #lasvegasevents #eventmanagement #eventplanning #liveevents #eventexperts #eventmanagementexperts

Attending NAMM tomorrow (Thursday)? Join us from 1:30–3:30 PM, in Hilton Level 4, A5 for "It Doesn’t Get More Real Than This: Mortal Danger at Shows" ⠀ ⠀ Live events give rise to a huge variety of potential dangers, from the health and safety of touring professionals to crowd management and event security. This session will feature two presenters with the unenviable distinction of seeing people die at their shows. Sue McGuirl, co-Chair of the Event Safety Alliance’s Advisory Council, will talk with Shawn London, who was the sound engineer for Eagles of Death Metal at the Bataclan nightclub. Attorney and ESA vice president Steven Adelman will moderate. #eventsafety #eventprofs #liveevents #eaglesofdeathmetal #parisattacks #production #safetyfirst
